When I knew that I will starch the lace piece I start to make, then I lay directly on my pillow
two or three sheets of this kitchen-paper we use so often. Bigger than the pricking. And then I put the pricking there. Another idea is to lay a very "smooth" transparent paper over the pricking, but then you can't see the needle point as good as without this.
