Hi Jenny (and everyone) not just tension - if you will do a double-half-stitch at each side, (cross, twist, cross, twist, Pin, CTCT) this makes a more stable selvedge and your lace is less likely to curl. As others have pointed out, we seldom do half-stitch on its own.
