separate pieces of lace. I'd guess that it's a combination of hand made and machine made lace, but probably very little, if any at all, that dates earlier than the 19th century. To my knowledge, we do not have any group of lace collected by a specific individual. I would imagine our Clothing & Textile collection is comparable to those in similar museum collections. Perhaps if we had a volunteer cataloguer we would discover a hidden jewel! Again, I apologize for my ignorance in this regard. Thank you for your assistance.

We do have many examples of lace in our Clothing & Textile collection, but unfortunately they are not well-catalogued and I am unable to provide much information about them. We would like to find a knowledgeable volunteer who would be willing to research and catalog the various items of handwork in our collection.
In an effort to try to find some cataloguing help for the lace, could you explain the lace a little more? How much is there? What do you think it is? For instance, is it primarily clothing items, collars, cuffs, dress ornaments owned by local ladies dating from the last quarter of the 19th century? Would it be handmade or machine made? Or do you have something along the lines of a lace collection such as was quite popular with wealthy women of the late 19th century in which they actually collected lace from the 17th and 18th centuries? If there is such a collection from a donor, who was she?
