Hello,

this afternoon I was invited to the opening of the Bavarian-Slovenian
Bobbin Lace Exibition. To start with the end: the Slovenian food
which was offered to the guests was delicious.

Of course there were various speeches but they were quit
interesting, giving some historical background to the lacemaking in
both the Schonsee area and the Idria area. They also explained how
they got together to organize this exibition. I took many photos and
DH has to load them on the pc to find out how good they turn out.

The exibitions presents a very wide variety of excellent laces.
Modern lace flower arrangements, really large tablecloths - I
estimate 1.50 x 1.20 m. Some of them lace only some mended with
cloth. A lot of typycal tape lace, but many others, too.
They have tablerunners, hanky-edges, doilies in every size, many
bobbin lace pictures such as sunflowers, tulips, clowns, rabbit,
people, religious motives, fish, ducks, fruits.
Quite a few items are beautifully made by German and Slovenan
children (7 - 15 yrs).

It is very interesting to note, that the Slovenian lacemakers generally
use a finer thread than the Bavarians. So their lace looks very
delicate.

There were even some clothes with or made of bobbin lace: A dress
with some lace at the front, blouses, tops, hats, scarfs, a christening
gown with lace motives applied and a lace edging.

They also have the laces of the competition of the German
Kloppelverband "Circles".

I enjoyed the whole day very much. I hope to go there again in some
days. The exibition is open until 28th of May.

Greetings from Germany
Martina,
in Bavaria close to the Bavaria Forest.
