Firstly, the website shuffles the symbols around each time you click on the
crystal ball, so you do not always see the same symbol, when you try the
puzzle multiple times.
If you look at it carefully you will see that all multiples of 9 up to 81
are the same symbol as each other. 81 is the largest number you can get as
an answer to the sum set.
It tells you to choose any two digit number.
Think of this as
ab
which can be represented as
10a+b (thinking in terms of tens and units columns which we used when we
were first learning addition etc)
Then it tells you to add the digits together which gives
a+b
Then you have to subtract this from the first number
10a+b - (a+b) =
10a+b-a-b=
10a-a +b-b=
9a
So the answer is always going to be a multiple of 9, less than or equal to
9x9 or 81.
So all the multiples of 9 need to be the same symbol, which they are
