I think it is a good idea to put our names and where we come from - EXCEPT won't that give us away to our Secret Pals?

No......There's just too many of us all around the world. The last report I read, some time back, was 1200. Unless you're the only Arachnian in your country, the signature won't give it away. If you are the only one, then send your thank you to Brenda to be sent on to the proper person without the whole world reading it. That way, only two people see your signature -- Brenda, who already knows it, and the pal -- and you can leave off the location off that message. Only general messages to the List need the location.

You don't need to be too specific. I use 'Oregon' which is a state as big as England. I'm not the only Arachnian in the area. I've been acused of being a secret pal several times when packages come from Oregon, but it wasn't me. Many secret pals are lurkers -- subscribers who read but rarely write to the List. An SP may easily be a lurker using a friend's return address. You can give your general area (Oregon) instead of the exact town. You can say UK, France, Australia, Alaska, Michigan, Ontario -- or a very large city like London, New York, Sidney. There are so many Arachnians in each very large city that just the city name will not give you away.

A little common sense, some caution, and a bit of creativity will keep your true identity a secret for the desired 5 months before revealing the truth.

On the other hand -- if you are a beginner seeking help, being more specific with your area may lead to meeting other lacemakers in your area. So judge your details according to the circumstances.

Alice in Oregon -- in middle of Fair Week. Only 6 days to go.
