I've had problems like that with AOL from time to time -- most recently, this
week! I had to set up an alternate account to subscribe to an
insurance-related List, of all things! How risky is that?

Another time, it started blocking email from a friend in Belgium, for no
reason at all. I did not know about it until my friend contacted me at another
email address. The system message said it was being blocked due to a spam
block.
I contacted AOL's online help to try to get the problem resolved, who claimed
I would need to petition their web administrator to get the address unblocked.
Before I did that, suddenly, the mail started working again.

AOL treats its members like children running with scissors.

I'm going to switch to another ISP, at the nearest opportune moment.
