I thought I would try to clear up her comment about "sitting in on

JoAnne paid the fee for an afternoon class.
There'd never been any freeloaders in any IOLI (or other) workshops
I've ever attended; as many people said, the observers drift in and out
(though some were more obnoxious than others, in several instances),
but never *stay*, not even on the fringes. JoAnne's being able to
attend half of the class - on payment for half of the class - is
unusual as well as beneficial to her (better half a loaf.. etc <g>) And
it was a serendipity that Greet did have room in her class, and agreed
to add someone who was only able to work at "half speed"...
I doubt JoAnne's "part-timing" has changed the dynamics of the class
much; from my own observation of Greet's class (Harrisburg, PA, July
22-24); there were some who "got it" very quickly, and then there were
some (like myself <g>) who, after 3 days of full tuition, still knew
less than half :)
But the following:
it was to Greet's advantage to have another student, even if it was
for just half.
has me puzzled... Has IOLI changed its rules, and started to pay "per
head" instead of "per hour"? If so, then Greet might, indeed, have
"half-profited" :)
But, from all I've ever heard, teachers are paid *per hour*; that's one
of the reasons the class size tends to be fixed at 9-15 participants...
Any fewer, and the organisers lose (unless they can persuade the
participants to shell out more per person). Any more, and the teacher
is likely to have to spend too much on psychiatric treatment
afterwards, to make the whole thing worth while...
So, Anita (and all the rest of you who've attented last year's and/or
this year's IOLI AGM)... *Have* the rules been changed?
Puzzled in LexVegas, where we had rain in the morning. Pleased DH no
end - we saved on the water bill *and* he didn't have to work in the
yard :) Me, I didn't grow up with the American work ethic, so I can be
lazy and enjoy it without a valid excuse :)
