Hi everyone and Nathalie

My favourite book reference about flax for weaving is
"The Magic of Linen: Flax Seed to Woven Cloth" by Linda Heinrich
ISBN 0-920501-67-2
it was published in 1992 but the historical info is v. good.
You want fibre flax, not oilseed flax, for linen. If you can grow it
yourself, and are patient, you can probably encourage a fine-fibred crop.

There was, at one time, a group of handspinners in the US who dedicated
themselves to growing and working with flax, including bobbin lace. I
think they were connected with a museum.

In the folklore section, "a winter with much snow promised a good flax
year." Global warming might prevent a good flax year :(
