They are old, but the 'Susan' one has recently been painted green, with the bits around the name left blank. The 'Fanny' one has been painted and the letters painted over. The bands appear to have been 'enhanced' as well. Both completely wrecked. They wouldn't have been like that originally. Old stained bobbins are *usually* red or green, and the parts that would be handled and exposed to the air would be faded.
