I'm sorry, but I'm not terribly happy about this suggestion! As I remember
it, there are over a thousand members on the Arachne list - and only a
relatively small proportion of those will be taking part in this exercise,
so why should the majority have to unsubscribe, resubscribe to the digest
and then resubscribe to the reflected list after its all over?

I am the owner of a Google group, and the main work was my entering the
email addresses of the participants (over 90 of them) into the system.
They didn't have to do anything at all - because I set the list to deliver
the messages to their inbox. There is no need for the participants to sign
up for a Google account if the messages are delivered to individual email
addresses...an account is only needed if the messages are to be read on the
internet site of the group.

Once on the list, the lace-in participants can drop in and out by the simple
expedient of the owner setting their mailing status to "no email"....its a
very simple and quick way of doing it.

I've proved that a new addition to the Google list will start receiving
messages within a few seconds of my entering their email address. If
people interested in taking part in a lace relay emailed the co-ordinator in
the day or so before it was due to take place, the list would be set up
ready to start whenever the word was given.

How about using the lace list itself?
Those who normally subscribe to the digested version but would like to
participate in the lace relay could subscribe to the reflected just for this
occasion?
and those who don't want a flood of e-mails could unsub from reflected and
subscribe to the digest, and read about the relay later...
