I have re-read the instructions several times, but frankly I think that
learning to tat from a book was easier. For that matter, so was
learning bobbin lace from books.

A Dutch saying sounds about: asking "raad" from many makes you "radeloos"
"loos" = without
"raad" = advice
radeloos = without "raad"
to become "radeloos" = maddening, drive to distraction
