The very first answer to my request for lace pictures came from generous Brenda: thanks so very much! Here is my reply to her ( I forgot to include Arachne when I sent hers off):

Dear Brenda,

What an angel you are! I am forwarding your email to the Professor so that he can help me make the right decisions on this. We are at this very moment in the midst of discussing how best to send him the old laces in my collection, so your offer will help him know what other things might be available and tell me how to handle them.

I am especially grateful that you understand the copyright thing so well. I had to put that in so that people wouldn't just send me laces that they had made from other people's patterns. Either the old commercial laces found in the family attic--this is what I have--or original designs from generous people like you are what I think we can use without any problems.

I will tell you what the Prof says. I can't imagine that he would want to undertake a project as big as this one may become, but I have an idea it is because he got good news at his last checkup. He seems to be in a quiet state at the moment--his tumor hasn't grown and his wife is also in some sort of remission--so although he has tons of work still pending on his site, he is quite naturally hoping to continue beating the odds by taking on more. As a friend of mine said: "I told God I am ready to go any time--but please let me finish this project first!"
