Dear Friends,
I know some of you have difficulties with tallies. If you care to
look closely at the latest picture Barbara has so kindly put on her
website, you will see 2 pearl headed pins in the bottom right hand
corner. These are through a piece of celluloid (always careful not to
write cellulite) and have the two outer threads draped around them
all ready to commence a square raised tally, which in this case will
actually be a "lowered" tally so that it will be on the front of the
work eventually and not the back. I just made up a method to achieve
this by placing 2 pins at either corner where the tally ends and then
I am able to continue the half stitch across the back of the new
tally behind these 2 pins.
The celluloid allows you to work the tally at the angle it needs by
having your 4 bobbins on top of all the others you are using. The 2
pearl headed pins allow you complete control over the tension of the
edge of the tally. You just simply pull down on them to achieve the
shape you desire. I use this method for both square and leaf shaped tallies.
