Perhaps this is the time to share thoughts about all the larger lace events throughout the world, and the problem of dates overlapping. Friends and I discussed this years ago, and decided there were too many obstacles to success at that time. Here is what I have in mind: It would be nice to have a worldwide lace events calendar spanning several years in advance - for posting commitment dates. This would prevent overlapping activities that put our valued lace officers, teachers, vendors, etc. in a scheduling bind. These are people that have calendar commitments set up years in advance. They are the people average lacemakers look forward to seeing at a lace event. Average lacemakers would be enabled to plan which events they might like to attend, and personally budget money and time for them. There would need to be some protections built in to this type of calendar, and someone officially responsible for it. An officer in each organization would need be designated (in their job description) to submit entries as soon as dates are confirmed. Sometimes this is years in advance, but that is the point - others will see the dates, reconfirm there have been no changes, and work around them. The advantage of being able to avoid scheduling conflicts might be worth it to all. We've had some conflicts that were terrible for individuals to work around. Is this a subject already solved? Or, is it something we can help along?
