I just got the new book "Beginner Guide to Bobbin Lace" by Gillian Dye and Adrienne Thunder, Search Press, ISBN 9 78184 4481088, cover price GBP £9.99, USD 19.95, CanadianD 24.95. Even cheaper through Amazon.

Definitely a beginners' book. Very clear photographs and diagrams, with notes in the corner of some pages about things like hitches likely to come undone. Uses coloured and textured threads. Starts with bookmarks using more than one colour to show the techniques. Moves on to using textured threads for a purse (like those in "Torchon Purse Pendants" by Suzanne Thompson), a slightly larger bag, cushion trim and scarves.

Could bring more people into lacemaking because it would appeal to those who think fine traditional lace is old fashioned and therefore can't see the point in making it. Allows for experimentation while learning for those with flair in colour and texture.

No connection with the authors or the publishers.
