Dear Lacemakers, I first bought these tables years ago for teaching embroidery. There were some over-sized ladies who were not comfortable at the long tables. They loved the Table Mates which gave more space around them.
Just this week, a button collector was going through my collection. The Table Mate was perfect because of the raised edge. One warning: You must be careful not to raise the edge of the table facing you, or the table will collapse and dump your pillow and bobbins. If you will always use it at home in one place, I suggest you tape the bottom with something firm, like duct tape. Otherwise, you have to remember not to lift on it. They are white, with 2 L-shape, adjustable-length legs. To fold up, these shorten and then rotate to fold flat against the top. The top has three notches underneath so it can be flat or sloped. They are usually pictured with a lady sat on a sofa eating a meal from it. The L-shape legs mean it will go under all but the lowest armchairs/sofas. I prefer using it flat but the adjustable height means I can get it low - right down to lap height even on a lowish chair, which is where I prefer my pillow to be to avoid shoulder ache. However if you prefer sloped, the first adjustment is a gentle slope, but I still would recommend some tacky fabric stuff to stop your pillow sliding off. Malvary has her Ottawa basement lace teaching room set of with lots of Table Mates and TM look-alikes; the real one are a bit more robust but they're all perfectly functional. You do get Table Mates in this country, but I'm not sure where from - do a Google, but I don't think we'll match the US prices - think £ for $. I found mine in a charity shop for £5 and was delighted, having used them in Canada.
