Hi All Many years ago I used to buy all of my yarn in skiens it was cheaper. I then had an idea, as my then other half would not sit there and help, I got him to get a block of wood for the base and 3 pieces of doweling and a long piece of flat wood. The first piece of dowelling was put in the middle of the block of wood and the other end of the dowelling into the middle of the long piece of wood(measure this about arms length), this way I had a turning arm, then put the two other bits of dowelling in each end of the long piece of wood sticking upwards. and Hey Presto, I had my own what I called whirligig. when not in use it can be flat packed for those with little room.
I hope you can see what I am trying to explain. It cost next to nothing to make and was used constantly.
