Hi Sue. Wish there had been lacemakers when I was there.

Before my trip, I tried to research the locations where lace could be seen in
museums and exhibits. I found none in Chartres. I went to that town to see the
cathedral and walk the labyrinth. (Labyrinth was covered with rows of chairs
and thus was unavailable to walk.)

My comments of No Lace mean that I didn't find any on my day there. Most of
the steps area was fenced off for maintenance on the face of the cathedral, so
there was not a good place for a lacemaker anyway. They may be taking a summer
off until the scaffolding and fences are removed. My short day there did not
give me time to explore all the shops or try to seek out laces. I enjoyed that
town and would have liked to spend more time getting acquainted with it.

I first saw lacemaking in a city park during an arts and crafts show. This
just reminds us to get out there and demo in public whenever we can. We never
know who might see us and later want to learn.

Alice in Oregon -- warm and sunny, but cool at night.

Subject: [lace] Chartres

When I saw Alice's posting with Chartre included in the heading I had to
read it through! I was a bit surprised to see her say there is no lace at
Chartre, you see that is where I first saw it and decided I wanted to learn!
.......on the steps of the cathedral were
several lacemakers making lace and I was hooked.
