to produce her from a square hankey.

A variant of the hankie church doll is a hankie angel, which is somewhat more elaborate. It uses a small circle of fabric (strong pink is good, as it'll show, a little, through the fine lawn of the hankie) and a pipe cleaner in addition to the -- fully edged with lace -- hankie.

1) Wrap the extra fabric around the stuffing and wrap the pipe cleaner around the "neck". Bend the ends of the pipe cleaner back towards the "neck" -- those are the hands.

2) Starch the hankie stiff. Fold it in half on diagonal (making a triangle). Fold it in half on the other diagonal -- this gives you the centre.

3) Cover the head/hands assembly with the hankie (centre from folding at the top of the head) and tie, tightly, around the "neck". Leave the ends from the tying thread for hanging off a tree (if you want).

4) Tie a ribbon (or a narrow piece of insertion lace) around the "waist", for a "sash".

5) Push the pipe cleaner "hands" down, toward the "waist". Turn the doll, bring the triangles above the "waist" to back and tack them to the head for wings. The triangles below the "waist" form the skirt (yes, it's a little funny, tapering towards the bottom, instead of widening).

6) Add a piece of lace for the halo, paint or embroider facial features if desired.
