As a retirement/birthday present our girls have given us a day trip to
Bruges on Saturday 8th August. It's a coach trip running from High
Halstow, where the twins both live, and about five miles from here but
it's an extra early start because scheduled engineering work in the
tunnel means it will be a ferry crossing.
It's several years since I've been to Bruges, and I'm not planning on
buying any lace, so what should we be aiming to do or see?
The last time I went to Bruges, day trip also, Lucy and her MIL were
with us. We did a canal boat ride, ate delicious seafood & chips and
stocked up on chocolate. Sue was amazed that I could tell hand made
lace from machine made in shop windows on the other side of the road,
but the styles were so distinctively different. Is this still the
case? and is the BL still all white? The Asian needlelace was white &
ecru.
