On a related note, I bought Alex's book a few years ago in Israel at a
used bookstore and I love it. When I was involved in the Thing-a-Day
project in February, 2008, I used the time to try all sorts of
needlework techniques that I never seemed to get around to. One of
those was Teneriffe lace. I made a small motif from Alex's book:

I used a hunk of styrofoam as the "pad" with long pins pushed through
a photocopy of the pin points.
