Fresh day, fresh eyes and some good photos from DH. There are some tiny
issues with the inner edge, I always struggle to work out which pair swaps
around within the footside edge at the corner and he got a great pic which
shows me that very well, not the actual last inside pairs, but the ones
coming away from the corner and into the pattern. Another issue for me is
always the use of gimps within the central corner. Outsides ones OK, set
the pattern and work fine, its always the extra ones on the slant where I am
also struggling with the corner angle of the work,. Always too much to get
done within one working session and so I continue into the next one and
struggle to remember which direction certain threads are going. Alex very
kindly sent me a couple of pencil working diagrams to help me and it did,
but the beginning of the piece is the second half of a corner, putting open
gimps in and when I came to complete the pattern and work in the other half
I am not convinced its right. I have tied off all threads now but finding
my oh so annoying very bad habit of forgetting to bring down a few of the
temporary pins, obviously that messes up the last stitch. Now that it is
off the pillow and looking at it as a whole rather than close up through my
magnifying glass, <grin> 99 percent of this piece will look really
beautiful once I get it sewn to the hanky and displayed in my jacket pocket
or else attached to a blouse as a jabot.
I might have to cheat/fudge it by releasing part of the last gimp and sewing
it into position with a sewing needle before trimming it.
Do all of you, (most of you) darn in loose threads in bucks which is using
Egyptian 60/2? At the moment I have a mass of loose ends waiting to be
teased apart and removed.
Thank you Alex for a lovely, all be it very challenging piece.
As a side issue I just got a late present of a wooden 3 legged lace pillow
stand, <VBGrin>

Today I completed the full square and am fairly content with it, generally
the pattern is very pretty.
But, (there is always a but) I don't think I handled the corners well at all
finding the end which finishes at the last half corner even more difficult
than the other 3 corners I know in the future I could work a straight
strip and gather it around the corners but do others struggle this badly
with the gimps added into the corners along with the pattern. This is not
the only bucks pattern to give me trouble in this way, so more work to be
done there I guess. I will add a picture of the corner into the arachne
folder named hurwitzend.
