Just some comments on your painting find - the portrait itself looks like it
might have been done after the 'sitting' from a sketch made on the spot. I
can't imagine the artist did the oils in the moment, but who knows. Maybe
the setting was the lacemaker in her living room in 1966 ;)
The head and facial details are well done (painting a face that is wearing
glasses is tricky). It occurs to me that the artist might have been a close
friend or relative of the sitter. However not knowing what the sitter really
looked like - even though the head and face are in logical proportion, the
features appear pudgy. Perhaps it was too close and the person wasn't
flattered :p
It appears the artist didn't understand the lacemaking process, or the model
was moving too quickly LOL. In amateur work, it is difficult to convey
precise details; often better to suggest a motion.
Hard to tell what sort of lace she is making from the picture, but I'll take
the artist's word for it ;)
