Not only a threat to individuals in the area, but because it hosts a large nuclear testing facility, roughly 36 sq. mi., the damage can be far reaching via the atmosphere. The potential plutonium release (one atom in the lungs will create cancer), and some waste storage is in fabric type shrouded facilities.
Sorry to go off topic and embellish prior comments, but our prayers go to all those in the area. In North Dakota, homes are standing in water to the rafters in the worst flood since the 1800's, and other states such as Texas, have the worst drought in years. Perhaps a good meditation/mantra/prayer while one is making lace, as thoughts are things.
