....  Many do not and faithfully continue follow diagrams for years without
thinking about
how it all works.  They are my concern.


But they are still making lace - for years. 
Many stay on the 'easy' pieces rather than challenge themselves but they
still make lace. 
Many go on to try more than one type of lace before mastering the first but
they still make lace. 
Many follow the pattern and only do what is in the pattern, never learning
to design their own, but they still make lace.

They still get the pleasure of sitting peacefully doing a craft that brings
them joy. 

What is wrong with that?

There will always be the 'challenge myself' people who need to know why?
how? what if? Those are the ones who go on to leading the rest with new
ideas, techniques and patterns. Every leader needs followers! Every writer
needs people to buy their books. 

It takes all sorts to make a world.
