A new poem for the New Year:

It's great to be a lacemaker
With bobbins, thread and pillow
But then you starting collecting "stuff"
And cash flies out the window.

Worst of all are fancy bobbins
Only seen once in a while
So they have to be acquired at sight
And added to your pile.

You don't really have to have them
Your dowel sticks would do just fine.
But an irresistible urge digs in
Which says "That bobbin's MINE".

Then each bobbin needs its spangles
And beads sparkle there like jewels.
Then more beads and yet more beads
And the wire and crimps and tools.

Books and patterns always tempt one
To last a life (or six, perchance)
'Cause in no time they are out of print
So "buy now" or miss the chance.

Lots of thread goes without saying
Colours are a must
Then fabric, fansticks, pictures ..
By now the budget's bust.

So try to tame your spending bug
Before your money's zero.
Don't forget that all you need
Are bobbins, thread and pillow.
