Hello All! As to crossing braids for Celtic knots, there are crossings in both Milanese & Honiton. The technique is explained in both booklets from Lace Guild UK. Milanese pg 23--crossing is made using pairs previously laid back, no sewings. Honiton pg 18-19--make sewings following the diagram. What's really nifty is that there are some decorative Milanese braids that could dress up your Celtic knot! Have fun & please post pics of your results. It's so nice to see such a lively discussion about attracting others to our art/craft. ;-) Of course Jeri is correct about wearing lace & pre-planning at some venues such as the mall. So many good ideas awaiting action! Displays: libraries, municipal buildings etc. usually have locked glass cases. In my experience, these are booked well in advance--up to a year--& the exhibit is on display for a month. Demos: libraries, township rec. dept., county fairs/shows, museums & galleries etc. For an embroidery demo, the librar! y pulled books & displayed them next to our table. This was coordinated with our display in the locked showcase across from check out. My township offers leisure arts classes for seniors thru parks/rec. dept. with a demo day for prospective students. County fairs usually have booths of textile-arts & award ribbons; demos are offered nearby. Regional fiber shows offer demos & classes. When the Kimono exhibit was in Canton, OH, there were demos of kumihimo & Japanese embroidery techniques. Galleries that sell artisan-made items sponsor exhibits & demos. As I recall, someone on this list in South Africa organized a "lace in" on the lawn using large-scale bobbins, spikes & string. Demos DO require a certain amount of equipment & perhaps literature to distribute. A flash mob seems more like "demo lite" to me--fanny pack/money belt, keys, cell, simple small-scale project, bottled water & no extras! But it is a matter of DOING! Feb 2nd is Stitch In Public Day for those ! of us in EGA (Embroiderers' Guild) & I will be participating in Juno B each. A few years ago, this event drew coverage from Good Morning America with the host in Louisville, KY learning a few stitches. So it can be done! Sincerely, Susan Hottle, Palm Beach Gardens, FL USA
