Hi Sue and other Arachnids,
The suggestions made are good. I'd like to add;
When/if you go to the lace school (Kantschool) if you have time left when
you come out turn right and then first right again to find 't Apostelientje.
A delightful old fashioned lace- and some equipment shop (cramped and
crammed full) run by two knowledgeable ladies. There is also a rather
eclectic display of antique bits and pieces.
Food is good by and large but quite expensive. Try one of the many
restaurants on 't Zand. Mussels is the speciallity local dish or waterzooi
(another seafood dish) and if you can find them poffertjes (tiny pancakes
made from buckwheat eaten with butter and powdered sugar)
Hope the weather is kind to you, as Brugge is best seen by either walking,
taking a boat ride or a horse-drawn carriage. It will be too cold for the
elderly ladies of the Begijnhof to sit outside with their lace pillows at
this time of the year but there is so much to see and do in Brugge that
you'll want to come back at another time. There are great museums, many
beautiful old buildings and lovely shops. The chocolate factory regularly
gives demos of handmaking fine chocolates -and you get to try one of the
chocolates made as well. Have a wonderful time!
