This episode was shown on our local PBS station last weekend.  I saw the 
crocheted granny squares when they were stitching them together into the 
blanket.  I didn't notice them knitting the crochet though.  Well spotted. 
 Wonderful show for oldies who remember the era, but a bit frightening to the 
newly pregnant.  One young friend stopped watching as she is halfway through 
her 
pregnancy and couldn't stand the gore.

<yesterday watched the 
final 3 episodes of Call the Midwife (series 2).

After they had been soooo accurate with all aspects of the 50s, I was 
amazed to see that when the elderly nun began "knitting" her squares 
for a blanket, it was crocheted squares which hung down from her 
knitting needles (which were well hidden by her hands).

Later on when they were all sitting around sewing them together, the 
close up shot definitely revealed that they were all crocheted. Apart 
from that, a wonderful show, and another box of tissues bit the dust,
