Hi Arachnids,

Gon, thank you very much for writing your blog and keeping it rich in lace content with lots of photos. You seem to be extremely busy. It is lovely to see a good number of younger women making lace although there do not seem to be any children as for instance in Portugal or Idrija.

Just for interest sake, where are there children's groups, either as classes or clubs with some tuition? I used to run a group (8 to 16 year old), but there seems to be little interest now. There is the occasional occasion when a youngster is interested enough to ask for some lessons, but not enough to form even a small group. Schools here are not interested as they seem to have little spare time and are unwilling to allow people from outside with the necessary skills to come in to teach lace (even if they have proper teaching qualifications and are willing to undergo the necessary checks). How do other area/countries fare?

Besides demonstrating and 'have-a-go pillows etc. how else can we encourage young people to come into lacemaking if the schools don't want to know; not forgetting that we are competing with the media and computer games etc. with instant gratification. In my immediate area the schools will not even put an A4 poster up to announce that there is a lace class or lace club starting (or re-starting) locally :-( I would love to run another lace class :-)

Happy lace making,

Joepie
