Unfortunately, they recruit lace teachers and those who do fiber arts from
the human race, and some, even the lace makers, are rather flawed. Some are
buddinskis, some are overbearing, some just have to be right, some can't see
what harsh criticism can do to some people. And the list goes on and on,
just as it does for every group. A lot of us can shrug our shoulders and
realize it is their problem and not ours, and move on.
But some, when given robust criticism, feel that it is a confirmation that I
can't do anything right, that Mom was right when she said I was stupid and
cow-handed, here is the proof. If the criticism is given to someone else,
we can see the fault in the criticizer, but when aimed at us, that clarity
of vision disappears. It is very difficult to get over that, as it has to
do with feelings, and feelings never go away just because we tell them to.
If they did, there would be no need for anti-depressants.
Lyn from Southwest Harbor, Maine, where I have 3 of my lace pillows with me
on vacation. Going to see if I can make lace while traveling in the
passenger seat of a small RV.
