Our correspondence has evaporated. Therefore, something somewhat related
to lace - in art.

We were reading about Vermeer in December, specifically The Milkmaid.
Devon reported there was an exhibition catalog devoted to this specific
painting in connection with an exhibit at The Metropolitan. If someone is
researching famous artists who painted lacemakers, this might be of interest
to
the art scholar. It is not about the Lacemaker painting. I have not read
it.

An End of Season CLEARANCE catalog has been received. It has a red cover
with white pearl necklace on it.

On page 27 is the catalog: "The Milkmaid by Johannes Vermeer" by Waltter
Liedtke Painted about 1657-58. Paper binding, originally $9.95; now $5.00 -
for 36 pages. Item No. 80-005586

Travel tips: If you visit Delft, shops sell a postcard of The Lacemaker.
It is nice to buy a quantity for later use, if you might want to send
invitations related to a lace meeting or give to friends. Delft is a lovely
place for a single woman to spend a few days absorbing a different culture,
which I did the year of the Ghent OIDFA Congress. After 2 days visiting
Amsterdam museums, I found myself unhappy with hordes of people and noisy
street entertainers everywhere. Off to Delft via train, where I stayed in a
small hotel and was able to walk everywhere and explore historic nooks and
crannies of a small city. Even the hotel's bathroom fixtures were decorated
with the well-known blue Delft patterns. The first day, I ordered several
Delft angel ornaments in a pottery shop, and picked them up 2 days later.
Some had dresses that show embroidery stitches. Appropriate Christmas
gifts requiring very little suitcase space.
