If the thread is coloured: pendants, ear-rings, lace-bugs or butterflies
from Claire Burkhardt's Lace for 10pairs (I have a stash of insects, so
when asked for something to put in the witches' cauldron, or how to hide
holes in a curtain nibbled by grasshoppers, I donate several lace bugs;
what's more, you can mix colours to your heart's delight); if there's
enough thread I may make a bookmark, or use it to try out a new pattern, or
just make a band until the thread runs out. There are so many things to do
with short bands of lace - put it on a pocket, a lavender bag, on a jute
lace-maker's pillow. The real problem is taking the time to do a something
little when you're itching to get onto the next big project, so I have lots
of little ends that go into pin-cushions, but I top them with polyster
filling, because I don't like the only-threads ones!
