It is neither an edging nor an insertion, but you can use it as a bookmark or as an application on your blouse. Of course you can alter it into an edging by removing the pigs nose edge at one side or change it into an insertion by removing it from both sides. This is the fun part of the Skåne lace. You can combine many elements to a lace which you like and which suits the purpose you making it for.
