This sounds like the "Little lace books" published by Jean Horne and Mary Hughes in South Africa in the late 1980's. There were sanctions against South Africa so we had no lace books coming into the country. Jean and Mary decided to publish these books themselves as they could not face rejection by a publisher. There was whole series of them - Little lace book of Church lace, Little lace book of collars, Little lace book of Christmas and some others. Jean Horne also wrote the series of books on colour in lace.
