Wow! That is a very beautiful piece of lace! I see what you mean about the rectangles. I don't have a clue, but love it anyway. It would seem to be very meticulous to make (for me anyway).
Thanks for sharing! Liz Roberts in cool and rainey Missouri, USA Subject: [lace] Honiton With Rectangles? Hi Everybody: A couple of weeks ago I posted a question (below) about a Honiton collar, and didnt hear from anyone. Happily the owner of the collar has sent me some photos, so I invite you to take a look at them and tell me what you think (see link at bottom of message). My original question: > A member of my lace club brought a beautiful lace collar into our last club meeting. It is an heirloom, coming from her family in the English Midlands, and is 100 years old, if not older. The lace is very finely made - beautifully made - in a sophisticated design of flowers and birds in very fine white cotton, with extensive raised and rolled work. Given the provenance, I would say it might be a very well-made, well-designed Honiton. Or it might be Duchesse. > > But this beautiful lace has a feature that I have not seen before and cannot find in any of my books. The flowers and leaves are held together with fine braids, but they dont zig-zag back and forth in the usual way. Instead, the picoted braids make a background pattern of rectangles, about 1 cm x .8 cm or so. Has anybody ever seen anything like this? Now, I tried - I really tried - to put these photos up on the Arachne Flickr site. But I couldnt make it work. However, I did quite accidentally create my own Flickr album and uploaded them there, so please take a look: https://www.flickr.com/photos/90579153@N03/ <https://www.flickr.com/photos/90579153@N03/> Thanks for any help.
