While I share the sadness of not having the annual fall pilgrimage to Ithaca , I would like to point out that there are new exciting things to look forward to. The IOLI will be hosting a series of Zoom lectures which we are calling Lace Lectures. The first will be on Oct. 18th at 3:30 pm New York Time (EDT). It will be given by Dagmar Beckel-Machyckova and will be about Contemporary Czech lace and her work. It is called Lace Beyond the Pattern. This lecture is co-sponsored by OIDFA-USA. On October 31st, at 1 pm New York time, we will have a presentation given by Norma Owens of the Headford Lace Project and Fiona Harrington, the curator of The Space Between, a contemporary art/lace exhibit sponsored by the Headford Lace Project which is going on right now. In that very few of us can travel to Headford we will be able to experience it from our living rooms. The Headford Lace Project has sought to study an almost forgotten lace industry in Headford, Ireland and has discovered all sorts of interesting things about it. The exhibit, The Space Between carries this forward by creating a 21st century lace exhibit. On Nov. 22 at 3:30 pm Lace Lectures will present David Hopkin, an expert on lace tells and lace lore. He will give a talk called "' We're the Hunters of Pleasure': Lacemakers' Feast Days and Holidays. This will allow us to learn more about the St. Catherine's Day celebration that occurs in November. These will be available to members of the IOLI. After the talk they will be available in recorded form to members. I am very excited about this program. I would be interested in hearing ideas that people might have about speakers and topics. Devon
