Some years ago the Victorian Branch of the Oz Lace Guild organized a trip to
the Lace Factory, and there was a whole bank of these machines churning out
lace by the yard. The noise was incredible, and they gave each of us some
ear plugs!! However it was fascinating to watch. We were shown how they
punch the cards for the jacquard machine, and some of their design books
etc. In the other room they were making elastic - with brand names in - for
men's and ladies undies, and shoe elastic, etc. It was a very interesting
and entertaining couple of hours.
