Have you tried cutting off as much as you need, peeling the backing off
and laying it upside down (ie sticky side up) on a table or flat surface
before lowering the printout or whatever onto it (right side down)? I
usually find that static holds the film to the table, and there are less
(if not no) air bubbles that way.
