In order to make a photo file smaller, you probably need a photo processing software. The first thing you do is crop the photo so that only your face (or lace pillow, or whatever) shows. Then, when you save the picture, you'll have an option of adjusting the resolution. The smaller the number, the lower the resolution, and the smaller the file will be. 100 dpi is considered adequate resolution for photos on the web.
