I was going to say that I agree with Betty, the photos aren't detailed enough to see what the tan on cream decoration is - might be embroidery or might be printed, and that it doesn't look like lace, but when I came to the fifth picture

I could just about make out that scalloped edging appears to be alternately cloth stitch and half stitch. Click on the view full size icon and you can see that they are woven motifs, which might be BL clothstitch or might be machine made braid, attached to the fabric with buttonhole stitch and the narrow lines are embroidered stem stitch.

I can't see enough detail in the other cloth to see how the motifs are attached to the fabric. Is it possible to upload scans rather than photos? Scans usually show more detail.

Susan, Is it my eyes or my computer? The picures are light brown/tan on a brown background and some leaf shapes are barely visible. I can't see any lace. Me or the photos?

Subject: [lace] FW: Pictures for Arachne

I've just uploaded these photographs to a new album in the Arachne Webshots page. The album is "Kay Mertens' Tablecloths" and a direct link to it is:

Here is the message Kay sent along with the photographs. Like Kay, I hope someone on Arachne can add to our understanding of these lovely tablecloths!
