>Subject: [lace] Elizabethan Ruffs >How many yards were used to make a ruff?
According to Lisa Picard anything from 1 and a half (apprentices) to 6 yards with up to 600 pleats! They could even wear three or more stacked upon one another. Which would have been uncomfortable. Elizabeth took against great and excessive ruffs in about 1580, probably when the falling collar began to make its appearance. Louise in frosty Cambridge where we haven't quite sunk yet! - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
