Thanks Bev for that link. If you explore the website - very
sophisticated but poor navigation, difficult to get back to something -
there are lots of different types of lace to be seen, including point
ground and chemical, so definitely not true to the time-frame. If you
can find the 'wallpapers' section those images can be saved to your
computer, choose the biggest size for clarity, and some of the other
images can be right clicked and zoomed-in.

Astute observation Helen.
The theatrical poster can be seen at the home page of the official
site for
the film http://www.elizabeththegoldenage.net/
and yes, the lace standing out over the character's right shoulder
looks
loopy with picots.
I think it is a small matter. The film isn't a re-enactment, except as
a
theatrical interpretation as you say.
The character is wearing chainmail and armor, too.

This is kind of on the topic (I guess), but an interesting observation
(I suppose) as I walked out of Wal-Mart tonight. I had to stop and go
back and look closely at the large billboard for the DVD of the Cate
Blanchett movie about Elizabeth. The costumers putting tatting on her
collar. I had to look twice and hard, but it's tatting and it's rings
and picots. I didn't think they tatted that far back - but please
correct me if I'm wrong (is it's Hollywood's liberal interpretation?).
