As a lurker, delurking, my opinion with varigated threads, is that one should be prepared to sample the thread..... You never know until that is done if you will like the results. I have dyed thread myself and sometimes get really effective results, and sometimes help create compost..... There are a lot of very nice varigated thread out on the market, worthy of some experimentation. On the other side of the coin, I also feel that a beautiful colored thread, plain or varigated, can detract from some very beautiful lace, and should be used only after careful experimentation and evaluation.
