I'm no purist as far as gimps are concerned so my suggestion for anyone who  
is having difficulties, is that you should put in 2 twists before the gimp  
and 2 twists after it, then whichever way the  gimp is woven through  you will 
always be left with at least one twist before and one after -  the  difference 
between 1 twist and 3 twists is negligible in most circumstances  compared 
with the difference between 1 twist and no twist.
