I just ran across a knitted lace edging book, and it gives Lacis as a source 
for hankie and doily centers in linen, if not already mentioned.  Though I 
haven't checked it out yet, assume the info. is still pertinent as the 
publication that old.

I recognize this packaging so it has been around a long time, but as I remember 
it, it may have a satin pinstripe (or two) near the edge, so would have to be 
cut inside the satin embellishment for most ladies hankies:
