As a fashion historian, I can't let this one pass - the rather splendid Bucks pattern is not a Cope but a Cape! Someone long ago missread Miss Sivewright (or Miss Pope)'s handwriting, and the missprint has been perpetuated ever since. It would not have been worn by a Bishop, but by a fashionable Edwardian lady. The irregular inner edge would be mounted onto fabric, probably heavy silk or velvet, to fit round her neck.
