Greetings Dona and Gentle Spiders,
If you are fortunate enough to have a husband looking for a project, why not
suggest he consider placing a ratchet spanner at one end of the roller axle.
We used one from a budget tool store and cut the handle length down. The
tool is embedded in the cushion but I can just reach the "button" that
changes the direction of the ratchet.
I have rarely needed to do that. I like the fact I can give a good tug
without pulling the roller out or forward.
We made this early in my lacemaking career and if I made another one I would
have a bigger lighter apron around it, probably oval shaped. I also have
dreams of a slide out roller - that is the roller in a box and the box
sliding into the pillow from the back. Small pillows are so much easier to
take on outings but if they are too small for the job they are a pain.
Give him a challenge!!!
