I have been asked privately for details of the Lace Society's Bucks point book, and hopes no-one minds me posting them; a satisfied customer, and ordinary member of the Society, but not on committee or anything similar.
'Marjory's Buckinghamshire Point Lace for Beginners' can be ordered using Paypal on the website, www.thelacesociety.org.uk but if you want to pay by sterling cheque in the UK, the address is Merchandise Officer, The Lace Society, Henley in Arden, B95 8AQ - GBP7.50 for UK addresses, GBP8.25 EC, GBP9.75 elsewhere. I think it's a good teaching book, starting with sheepshead and corner, and ending up all but floral, trying to wean the user off diagrams, though these are provided, and there are very detailed verbal instructions as well. It does not include everything in other basic Bucks books by a long way, but I think anyone actually making the 8 handkerchiefs for which instructions are given should be able to do the ninth, pricking and picture only given, and would have learned a great deal in the process. It is more a teaching than a reference book, almost chatty in places, such as saying that you can get away without adding pairs, but pointing out the advantages of doing so, and suggesting alternative methods. Incidentally, it is the last pattern without instruction where I should be inclined to try the internal catch pins that started this discussion.
